GOOD FRIDAY
APRIL 2, 2021

Good Friday is the only day of the entire year, during which there is no “Mass” as we know it. The remaining consecrated bread from the Holy Thursday liturgy will nourish us on this day of immense solemnity as we ponder, with fasting and prayer, the “mystery of faith”: the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of our LORD Jesus the Christ. In continuation from the previous night, there is no opening rite or entrance hymn.

THE SOLEMN INTERCESSIONS

On this day, the Church prescribes the ten intentions, for which we pray in this special service: 1. the Holy Church, 2. the Pope, 3. all orders and degrees of the faithful, 4. catechumens, 5. the unity of Christians, 6. the Jewish people, 7. those who do not believe in Christ, 8. those who do not believe in God, 9. those in public office, and 10. those in tribulation. After each prayer, we simply respond with Amen.

CALVARY

SHOWING OF THE HOLY CROSS

We respond three times to each of the priest or deacon’s invitation (“Behold the wood of the Cross, on which hung the salvation of the world”): Come, let us adore.

VENERATION OF THE HOLY CROSS:
JESUS, REMEMBER ME
JESÚS, RECUÉRDAME

LORD’S PRAYER

ALL: Our Father, Who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

PRIEST: Deliver us, LORD, we pray, from every evil;
graciously grant peace in our days,
that, by the help of Your mercy,
we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope
and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

ALL: For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are Yours now and for ever.

The priest then invites all to share in Holy Communion, All respond to the invitation:

ALL: LORD, I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof,
but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

COMMUNION HYMN:
THE LORD IS IN HIS HOLY TEMPLE

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

If you are joining our parish family in worship through our livestream and cannot physically receive Holy Communion with us, you may join us by offering up this traditional prayer of spiritual Communion or one similar:

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You in my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.

The Liturgy of the Eucharist ends very simply with a prayer, to which all respond: Amen.

DISMISSAL

Today, we receive a special blessing, to which we respond with Amen. Thereafter, we again remain in prayer and fasting. Like the Mass of last night, this service is the continuation of our three-day vigil, which will culminate tomorrow at sundown.

Hoy recibimos una bendición especial a la que respondemos con Amén. Después volvemos a quedarnos en oración y ayuno. Como la misa de anoche este servicio es la continuación de nuestra vigilia de tres día, la cual culminará mañana al atardecer.
